DANCING FOR ALL

Dance Connexion (Established in 2011) is a Ballroom Dance studio based in New Plymouth.

Studio Principal MAUREEN HOOK IS joined by a team of passionate, experienced teachers to provide tuition of the highest quality. We teach a variety of partner dance styles including Ballroom (Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Viennese Waltz), Latin American (Cha-Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, Jive), New Vogue, and Rock n Roll. WE ALSO HAVE AN AMAZING CLASS JIVE BUDDIES TO ENABLE PEOPLE OF ALL ABILITIES TO DANCE.

We offer dance classes and private lessons in central NEW PLYMOUTH and IN ŌAKURA:

Our two locations are:

  • Central School hall (40 Lemon st)

  • Oakura Hall (Main road oakura)

We can also travel to your work place, school or club for private and group classes (TARANAKI).

  • Maureen Hook

    STUDIO PRINCIPAL

    Maureen began dancing in New Plymouth over 30 years ago. She is a foundation student of Dance Connexion and has been competing with her husband Mike for many years. Her highlights includes winning a NZ title in New Vogue and Showdance Categories and finalist in Ballroom in the Masters 1 & 2 Sections. She turned professional in 2025.

    Maureen worked in childcare and her strengths include working with children and those with special needs.

    She now runs dance connexion full time.

  • KIEL DE BUISSON

    TEACHER

    Kiel began dancing over 30 years ago. He was won many NZ titles through all age divisions during his competitive career.

    He has performed in numerous public and private events in New Zealand and Australia.​Kiel featured on Season 1 of TVNZ's Dancing with the Stars before moving to Sydney in 2006. Here he studied under World & British Champion coaches and competed with Australia’s best couples.

    ​Kiel turned professional in 2010. And has since trained and competed at the highest level across New Zealand, Australia, Canada, USA and Europe. His highlight was representing NZ at 2 professional World Championships.

    On returning to Auckland in 2013 and coaching a number of NZ champions, he developed Dance Connexion as a successful social and competitive studio. he now lives and works in Sydney.​

  • COLE HARRINGTON

    TEACHER

    Originally from Wellington, Cole is currently living in Sydney, competing, learning and teaching and frequently pops back to New Plymouth.

    Cole brings amazing passion, experience and technical knowledge to New Zealand. One of the most sought after dance coaches in NZ. Cole achieved success on Dancing With the Stars with Robert Rakete and has also been crowned the New Zealand Closed Professional Latin Champion with her former partner.

    She now lives and works in Sydney.
